The Homer Elks Lodge puts on a Captain’s Invitational tournament every May. Capt. Jeffrey aboard the F/V Kachemak King won today as of 7 pm. First Mate Ben was the lucky angler to land the 122.2 lb halibut. Ben is also a crew member aboard our other 6 pack vessel the F/V Dilligaf. The Kachemak King, was the first boat to be cut by Buttwhackers for the 2021 season! We dedicate this win to the late Captain Mike Crawford who would have been proud. Thanks to the Homer Elks Lodge for putting on the Captain’s Invitational, Buttwhackers Fillet Company, & Homer Fish Processing for all the support. Special thanks to Capt. Ron Hurly of In-2-fishin Charters, and Capt. Eric Lem of Mavrick Charters for organizing the event.

He worked with Capt. Richard Baltzer for year and if you know Capt. Richard he is a legend in Homer. Its a passing of the torch and we are grateful to have a skilled safe captain.

Small change to 2020 fishing for Homer, Alaska

Small change to 2020 fishing for Homer, Alaska

All Tuesdays and Wednesdays you can not retain Halibut in 3A where Homer is located. The bag limit is still 2 halibut but one must be 26” or less the other any size. The fishing opportunity in Alaska is still the greatest in the world in my opinion so small management changes are needed to sustain it. The management is working in a positive way and being proactive to keep it sustainable before its too late.
